On Exhibit at Brooks Library: Art Work of Barbara Frodenberg (1931-2013)

A retrospective of Barbara Frodenberg’s works will show at the Brooks Memorial Library through the month of May. The collection represents an intimate view into her creative world. Many of the works are prints from an intensely creative period when she lived in Shelton, Washington.

Also included are watercolors and sequence paintings from her time here in Brattleboro. There will be a public reception in the Library’s meeting room beginning at 2 PM on Friday, May 9. Location Reception Meeting Room, 2nd Floor. Exhibit Main Floor. Contact Christine de Vallet, Public Art Coordinator.

Frodenberg was a member of Maisy Crowther’s water color group for a few years and took some classes at the River Gallery. There are also some examples of her primitive pottery from her days in Pendleton Oregon. Her work is deeply autobiographical and captures some of the intensity and adversity that she faced along her life’s journey.

Her great influence was Betty Feves, a well known ceramic artist from Pendleton, Oregon who encouraged her get back to her art. Ms. Feves was also her daughter Michelle Liechti’s childhood violin teacher. Her mentor and dear friend Beverly Pelech from Shelton Washington, is responsible for her real creative awakening.

The Library offers changing exhibits throughout the year, featuring work by local artists on the main floor and work by children’s illustrators in the exhibit cases outside the Children’s Room.
