On Thursday October 3rd at 5pm, David Walter’s Master Craft Gallery hosts the opening of “The Letter, the Book, and the Print”
The exhibition features the work of three esteemed local artisans: Julia Ferrari, Abigail Jones, and Brian Cohen who are among a small handful of individuals globally who work to master the arts of letterpressing, bookbinding, and printmaking.
Julia Ferrari has spent 33 years exploring the art of language and the book. She works by hand at the arts of punchcutting, letterpress (for which she designs and hand-cut her own letters), prints, and binding. She is also a poet.
Abigail Jones has been involved in various aspects of the book world for 25 years. She is trained in traditional English and French style bookbinding and specializes in fine leather bindings, historic book structures and letterpress printing.
Brian Cohen is an educator, printmaker, painter, and author. He founded Bridge Press in 1989 to further the association and integration of visual image, original text, and book structure.
Cohen’s books and etchings are held by major private and public collections throughout the country.
The show will open on Thursday October 3rd at 5:00pm in conjunction with the Brattleboro Literary Festival. At 7:00pm Julia Ferrari will read from the poetry of her late husband Dan Carr. The evening offers a journey from letter, to book, to print. A selection of wines by Marty Ramsburg of Windham Wines will be served.
On Friday October 4th the Mastercraft Gallery will be open from 5-8pm for Gallery Walk. On Saturday October 5th at noon, Julia Ferrari will again read the poetry of Dan Carr.
The show will be open through December 20th at David Walter’s Master Craft Gallery, 81 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT 05301. For more info call (802) 722-9620 or e-mail info@dfwalter.com. Gallery hours: Tuesdays-Saturdays 10:00am to 6:00pm.
