gods nailed to trees

Yes, there is a long history before Christianity of gods being nailed to trees/wooden crosses, such as Orpheus, Attis, and Adonis. Christianity is a syncretic religion designed for mass appeal to the different peoples in the Roman Empire, containing elements of paganism, buddhism, hinduism, zoroastrianism, hermetecism/neoplatonism in a matrix of 1st century judaism. The nasty history of institutionalized Christianity began when Emperor constantine recognized the political value of the new religion, The rest, as they say, is Western history.
