Summer Ski Jump?

The advance weather forecasts for the mid-February ski jump look good. More snow, perhaps, comes later in the week.

I was reading minutes of old Selectboard meetings from the 1950's and noticed a mention of permission being granted for a banner to be hung advertising the Summer Ski Jump.

What was the Summer Ski Jump and why don't we do it nowadays?

Putney Road Traffic

I had occasion to travel Putney Road today (Thursday) form about 3 till about 5, from the Common to Black Mtn. Rd..

For this entire time, traffic was bumper-to-bumper heading North.

Southbound was normal.

Does anybody know why the Northbound traffic was so slow?

Do You Have A Tripod Or Tripod Adaptor for a Smartphone I Can Have/Borrow?

I urgently need a tripod or tripod adaptor that will hold a Smartphone. I can't find one in any local stores and the one I ordered online got lost in the mail. (I'm having really bad luck with this!!) I need this for a project that is due THIS FRIDAY 1/31/2014! So I need this in my hands absolutely no later than Wednesday (but tomorrow, Tuesday, would be better!!!).

Please please please email me if you can help me out! You'd be helping out a poor artist with big dreams who's desperately trying to make a video for a contest with a cash prize she really needs!!! I can return it to you on Saturday if you want it back. I can meet you at the Cotton Mill.

Double Exhaust?

Maybe car folks know the answer. Why are there more cars and trucks on the road with double exhaust systems? Isn't one expensive enough?

It seems that whenever I'm stuck behind one, the smell of exhaust is amplified with these double muffler and tailpipe combos.

Does Anyone Know What Happened To Cathy Barrows?

Cathy Barrows has been our Animal Control Officer for many years but she no longer is. Questioning at the Police Dept. brings "I don't know" answers, as does asking at the Town Clerk's office. Seems hush hush to me, but I think the public should know what happened to this loyal and knowledgable woman after so many years in the position. Does anyone know?

Sewage Smell in Brattleboro?

Has anyone else smelled raw sewage around the corner of Canal and Main St? The smell intermittently permeates the area, all the way down a little into Hinsdale on the way to Walmart, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Is it coming from Brattleboro's new wastewater treatment plant? We shouldn't be smelling that in town, especially the downtown area where there's a relative high number of people. So disgusting, just another reason to move.

Showing Someone Around Brattleboro?

I've lived here for 15 years. I know there are so many amazing things about the Brattleboro area, but fear that like most folks, I've become blind to some of them due to familiarity.

I have a friend from out of town coming for a week.  Suggestions on local must-do's? Hidden gems? Things I may have forgotten we have?

I've got local restaurants covered.  We'll definitely take in a movie at the Latchis.  Visiting the Brattleboro Museum is on the agenda. If the weather cooperates, we'll hike the Retreat trails and maybe Fort Dummer.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Name of Store With $50 Eyeglasses?

I have a prescription and am now trying to remember the name of this store in or near Colony Mill in Keene, NH where I once bought glasses for $50. Does anyone know if this store still exists, and if yes, its name and/or location?

Or, any other place for cheap prescription glasses.
Thanks.

Last Minute Plow Help Around Brattleboro?

My regular plow guy is out of commission, and I didn't realize it until now (got my dates mixed up).  Anyone know someone who is still plowing who might be able to do a small in-town driveway?  It usually takes my regular guy 2-3 passes.  I'm willing to pay any reasonable fee.

LCD Projector Repair Near Brattleboro?

Is there any place locally that can repair an LCD projector?  Ours at the Humane Society is on the fritz, and we definitely don't have the funds to replace it.  If it makes any difference it is an IBM M400.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Brattleboro Jelly Company?

This morning I was at Dental Health on Western Avenue and while I was there I saw some really interesting product labels from the Brattleboro Jelly Company. Dr. Neumeister had them mated and framed and they looked like they were probably from the early 1900’s. I looked online and I found other vintage Brattleboro Jelly Company labels for sale. Amazon.com even sells a canvas reproduction of the company’s maple syrup label. But I couldn’t find any information on the company itself.

Where was it located? Who owned it? When was the company in business? I have a feeling that there’s an interesting story behind those labels and I’m hoping that someone on ibrattleboro knows it and is willing to share.
