Brattleboro To Consider Purchase of Reformer Building for Police Station

The north end "mystery property" has been revealed. According to documents on the town web site, Brattleboro will be considering an option to purchase the Brattleboro Reformer's building at 62 Black Mountain Road to renovate as a police station.

The north end option would be secured initially through March 31 with a $20,000 payment. Total cost, if the town decides to make the purchase, would be just under $750,000. Total cost with renovations would be just over $4 million.

The Brattleboro Selectboard will be discussing options for going forward with the Police and Fire facility upgrades at their regular meeting Tuesday night.

The Big Question

This raises an important question. Should the Reformer move downtown? (There may be room at the Municipal Center - a reporter's dream come true!)

So it wasn't the Friendly's property. That was my guess. I thought a Friendly Police Station would be appealing.

Is there a link to that posted information, cgrotke?

Thank um!

Thank you.

Missing file

Not sure what's missing, but the link still works for me. If it doesn't for you, go to the supplemental materials for tonight's selectboard mtg at the town website and look there.

I should add I was joking a bit about the Reformer move being the big question. Obviously, the Police moving from downtown is the real issue. The Reformer, according to the notes, would remain at that location, but lease 2,000 sq feet from the town. Interesting situation for a newspaper - having the town be landlord.

Another interesting question...

Newspeople say that they want to report the news, but not be in the news. It will be interesting to see how the Reformer covers this story.

Great idea!

Use an existing building! Should be more of this. Is anything in the former NE Coops building or is that just rotting?
