13 Year Old Child Running for Governor of Vermont?

Sept.9, 2017 OPEN LETTER FROM A VERMONTER TO U.S. SENATOR RICHARD BURR (NORTH CAROLINA) Dear United States Senator Richard Burr (North Carolina): I appreciated your note upon my arrival in North Carolina to visit relatives, clearly labelled, "visiting North Carolina", on the address part, and I think your mail delivery is excellent to find me there.

We enjoyed visiting the Bryson City area west of Asheville, NC, and the Total Solar Eclipse within the 70 mile zone, and tubing on the river.

Open Container Law?

I'm just wondering if the open container laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages have changed in the state or if our town is just choosing not to enforce them?

It seems there is a tremendous amount of drinking going on in public places, IE busstop by Gouger's, parking garage area, accross from the co-op, stoups in front of the apartments and businesses on Elliot Street.

Making Hay Out of Climate Change - Forum Tuesday

Tuesday, September 12, 6-8pm @ 118 Elliot, 118 Elliot Street, Brattleboro, Vermont

Climate change has been called the global issue of our age.  George Harvey, host of Energy Week on BCTV, talks about the fossil fuel industry dying a quick death over the next 10-20 years, but there is also the potential to create two jobs in renewable energy for every one lost in natural gas, oil and coal.  Climate change may be the biggest economic development opportunity that Vermont – and the world – has ever seen. But only if we act now to make sure our response is strong, equitable and done right.

Maybe Mexico Will Pay For The Wall

...if we can agree on a suitable route.

With Donald Trumps vaunted negotiating skills, surely he can work out an agreement that Mexico can accept: say a route along the top of the green area on the map, below. The wall would clearly demarcate California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona as well as certain portions of Wyoming, Oklahoma, and Colorado, as Mexican.

The Wonderful Chip Card

It’s more secure. It’s easier. It’s faster. Those were some of the claims of the innovators that brought us the chip card. You know, the bank card with the special chip embedded in it?

Early on, the chip card readers didn’t work. I would frequently be behind the early adopters at a supermarket when they’d try to use them. At the start, the readers weren’t set up, but even once they got going they had problems. Frequent re-trying of the card, or a call to a manager, would sometimes get it to work. Other times customers would simply dump their purchase and walk out in frustration.

ID Papers

I’m listening to VPR discussing the recent Barcelona Terror attack.

(a van plowed into a crowd of people killing at least 13 and injuring more than 100 others)

I wasn’t listening intently, as I was busy on the “Net” at the time.

However, I snapped to attention when I heard that the driver of the van had been identified, as he left his ID
behind.

Huh?

How many drivers leave their license behind when they leave their cars?

Science Sees the Forest for the Trees

"Wow, 25 degrees below zero, record cold and snow spell. Global warming anyone?" ~Donald Trump 2015

In their Clean Energy Momentum: Ranking State Progress the Union of Concerned Scientists rank Vermont number two in the country. One in sixteen Vermont workers are employed in the clean energy sector. Clean energy is vital to the future of forestalling the negative impacts of climate change.

Nevertheless, if I were to depend solely on my own observations, I would say that I see no evidence for climate change. It's because of my overall ignorance of the scientific observations, methods and measurements of meteorology that I'm left with some kind of belief to depend on only. Belief, however, in and of itself, is woefully inadequate to the task. But I feel I know why someone would doubt the human causes of climate change.

Brattleboro's Best Festivals

The best festivals in Brattleboro, in my view, are the authentic ones. They are quirky, have substance, are tied to the community, and exist due to local passion for the event. They go beyond tourism and marketing gimmicks and tap into something genuine and local.

I think these are some of the best Brattleboro festivals, listed in no particular order. What others did I forget?
