Change of Name?

With all the recent news of unrest and police actions, perhaps this should be renamed Totalitarianism Today.

I read that Amnesty International is sending a team to the US for the first time, to Ferguson.

You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet.

Wait until there's a complete collapse. And they know it's coming that's why they're "gearing up". We've been insulated from these latest events but I can see it happening close to home. Springfield Mass. would be a potential place for rioting.
But when the collapse comes be thankful we're in a rural area. It's not gonna be good.

Totalitarianistic Response

It's definitely related to long standing racial tensions which exist just under the surface nearly everywhere, even here in bucolic Vermont.
However the authoritarian response by militarized police is way over the top. (And why do they need jungle camo in an urban setting? Intimidation?)
White cops vs black protesters is always a recipe for disaster.

It's no coincidence that police forces all across America are acquiring military gear and training. Somebody is expecting severe civil unrest and they want to be prepared.
The unanswered question is "why?"

Tom,
I agree.
The fact that there's never been a public discussion about this shift makes it feel creepy. Like some unseen hand is moving things.

Past troubles

How much of what is going on in Ferguson can be attributed to totalitarianism and how much to long standing racial tensions?
Edward Robb Ellis has a chapter about the East St.Louis massacre in his book Echoes of Distant Thunder.
