Harris Hill Ski Jumping Competition

Discover the original extreme sport. Celebrating 96 years, Harris Hill welcomes an international field of competitors for two days of ski jumping competition on New England’s only Olympic-size 90-meter hill. Come thrill to the daring flight of jumpers soaring to 300 feet at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Enjoy the festive atmosphere; fun for the whole family; music; food court; souvenirs; bonfire; beer tent. Join in with the ringing of cowbells as jumpers attempt to break the new hill record set in 2017. Tickets online (www.brownpapertickets.com) or at the gate.

Black Moon Snowshoe

What's Happening at Dutch Hill? New Life for an Old Ski Area

Come to a public information meeting at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Nov 14, at the Readsboro Central School to learn about what’s happening at the former Dutch Hill Ski Area in Readsboro, VT. It went out of business in the 1980’s and is now part of the Green Mountain National Forest. Last fall the Forest Service finalized their South of Route 9 management plan, which identified Dutch Hill as a site for non-motorized winter recreation. At the meeting, a local historian will present a brief history of Dutch Hill and Forest Service reps will present information about recreation, timber harvest, and wildlife support plans for the Dutch Hill area.

DHASH, a chapter of the Catamount Trail Association, has been given permission to cut young growth and remove blowdowns as part of a Forest Service program to encourage non-motorized winter recreation at the site. No, there won’t be any ski lifts, but if you can climb the mountain under you own power, you’ll be able to ski down. Help us make it happen! Strict Forest Service safety requirements include: wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy footwear; wear a hard hat and eye protection, use gloves. Don’t have a hard hat? Come anyway. We have a few spares.
