Bagels and Blocks ~ A Jewish-based drop-in playgroup

Make new friends while having fun with your child! 
Brattleboro Area Jewish Community is excited to offer a Jewish-based drop-in playgroup for parents/caregivers and their infants and toddlers (0-5 years).

Bagels and Blocks is a facilitated parenting group as well as an activity group for babies and toddlers. These fun and friendly gatherings feature songs, stories, crafts, snacks, and free play.

Our next playgroup is February 5th from 1-3pm. Our theme for February is Tu B'Shevat (Birthday for the Trees).
 

High School A Cappella Concert

Taking the stage on Friday, February 3, at 8:00pm, six regional high school a cappella groups will give a rousing concert at the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center. Started more than a decade ago in anticipation of Saturday’s collegiate concert at the Latchis, the High School A Cappella Concert gets rave reviews each year. All proceeds benefit the In-Sight Photography Project. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the door on a first-come first-served basis. Seating is limited, with some standing room available.

Sleigh/Hay Rides

Enjoy the outdoors by going on a sleigh/hay rides with your friends and family at Fairwinds Farm in Brattleboro. This is one of the many events as part of Last Night Brattleboro, a New Year's Eve Substance-Free Celebration.

$8 for adults and $4 children up to 12 years.
Please do not bring your dogs.

Holiday Break Movie Matinee

The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks will be showing the movie "Secret Life of Pets" on Thursday, December 29th at 2pm at the Gibson Aiken Center. There will be popcorn and juice. This event is free of charge.

Holiday Break Bowling

Bellows Falls Santa Express

Embark on a magical train ride filled with holiday cheer aboard the historic Green Mountain Flyer from Bellows Falls to the North Pole (Chester Station) and back again. On the train ride, kids and adults alike will be entertained by students from the Bellows Falls Middle School advanced band as they play and sing favorite holiday tunes! Other entertainment will include Troy Wunderle (circus and magic entertainment), Grinch & Cindy Lou Who, and Mrs. Claus joins us with reading the Night Before Christmas to the kids. At the North Pole each child will meet Santa as a small ensemble of hand bells from the Saxtons River Ringers will entertain with more holiday music.

The Phil & Mary Dunham Ski, Skate, Snowboard & Hockey Sale

The Annual Phil Dunham Ski-Skate & Snowboard Sale, directed by the Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department and the Brattleboro Outing Club will be held Saturday, November 5th, 2016 from 8:00am – 11:00am, at the Gibson Aiken Center, 207 Main Street. If you are interested in selling or buying snowboards, skis, ski boots, poles, and bindings (both downhill and cross country), skates, all winter sports clothing and hockey equipment this is the event for you! People who wish to enter items in the sale must bring them to the Gibson Aiken Center, Friday, November 4th between 12:00 noon and 7:00 pm only. Any winter sport article can be listed for sale, but only twenty items per person will be accepted. Equipment brought in for the Ski-Skate & Snowboard Sale will be checked for DIN numbers.

Medieval Faire - The Grammar School

On Saturday, October 8, from 10 am to 4 pm, The Grammar School in Putney, Vermont, will transform our campus into a medieval village once again as we host our annual Medieval Faire. This event has been a family favorite for more than 25 years!
Enjoy the festivities while the King and his royal court preside over the Faire. Kids can ride a flying dragon, battle a knight, and watch a joust with medieval riding games. Fairgoers can also shop for goods in the village market and watch extravagant entertainment, including live music and a puppet show. You can even be knighted by the King himself!
Other highlights this year include:

Archery and slingshot ranges
Climbing walls

Bicentennial Celebration - Centre Congregational Church

Sunday Services, September 25, at 10;00 am, to feature the Kuirn Hattin chorus, followed by a cook-out and old-time games on the lawn.

Enjoy a Birthday Party with your family at top the Jewel of Bonnyvale Road, Heifer Hill, with spectacular 360 views. The theme of our gala celebration is all things celestial: the birds the winds and the stars.

The fun starts at 5pm kite making, sun prints bird puppets and more. A picnic at 6 (you can bring your own, or make a reservation on line to purchase a picnic). Cake will be provided for all.

5 pm: Hike to the summit of Heifer Hill for kite making and flying (feel free to bring your own kites), a summer sound safari, and more. Pack a picnic and meet us on the hill!

6:30 pm: Words, Strings and Kids Take Wing - poetry by Lynn Martin, music by Gudrun Weeks, Peggy Spencer and Zon Eastes, and a BEEC camper ceremony.

6:45 pm: Presentation of the Stockwell Environmental Award and enjoy birthday cake.

Crickets by Moonlight at BEEC

As summer wanes, the calls of insects replace the songs of frogs and birds. BEEC naturalist Patti Smith will introduce you to the many musical insects of summer nights. We will begin the program listening to recordings of the performers and learning to recognize the most distinctive. We will then take an evening stroll to the top of Heifer Hill to look for singing insects, and enjoy their songs and the light of the full moon.

Grace Cottage Hospital Fair Day

This annual event has been called “New England at its best” by the Boston Globe.

With free admission and free parking, the fair features activities to please the whole family: a live auction, bargain booths, bingo, pony rides, face painting, jewelry, kids games, a costume booth for kids, a dunking booth, and more. Yummy fair food includes BBQ chicken, cotton candy and good ol' fried dough.

For those born at Grace Cottage Hospital, join in the Baby Parade led by bagpipers and the Grace Cottage stork. The Baby Parade awards prizes for oldest, youngest, and to the person who came from farthest away.

Family Pool Party at Living Memorial Park

Family Pool Party to be held on Wednesday, July 13th, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the Living Memorial Park Pool. This event is for all ages. The cost is $5.00 per person for Brattleboro Residents. Alumni Dance

Kids' Day at the Brattleboro Farmers' Market
