Wills for Veterans

Date & Time:
Nov 10 2017 - 10:00am - 2:00pm

To honor and assist our community’s veterans, a special
event is being offered by Costello, Valente & Gentry this Friday, November
10, 2017 from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Brattleboro VFW on Black Mountain
Road.

Any veteran or direct family member may have estate planning
documents (like a will or advanced directive) prepared by donation.  After the donations are tallied, Costello,
Valente & Gentry will donate the sum to The Warrior Connection, a local non-profit
founded by Dr. Anne Black.  “That way, we
can help veterans two different ways with one Veteran’s Day event,” said James
Valente, Esq., the law firm’s President.

The Warrior Connection offers specialized programming to
help veterans suffering from PTSD, and their families.  They have helped many local veterans,
including Ryan Longtin, who attended a retreat organized by TWC.  “At the retreat I found the truth of who I
really am.  It gave me hope for my future
again,” he said.

Valente notes that estate planning is important but
something many people put off, or assume they don’t need.  “But they absolutely do.  For example, imagine you’re hit by a bus, and it
puts you in a coma you won’t wake up from.
Without an advanced directive, you leave your parents, spouse, and kids
to try to figure out what you would have wanted.  But in about twenty minutes, you can take
that burden off their shoulders, and hopefully never have to use it.”

Costello, Valente & Gentry has a long
history of serving veterans.  Thomas W.
Costello, Esq., who founded the firm in 1983, served as an officer in the
Marines during the Vietnam War, earning a bronze star and purple heart for his
actions in combat.  He has been very
involved at American Legion Post #5, and currently serves as their Adjutant and
corporate counsel.
