Concert by Paul Cohen and Nicholas Burns
Cellist Paul Cohen has performed with ensembles such as Camerata Pacifica, Pacific Serenades, and the Apple Hill Chamber Players, and became a founding member of the New Hollywood String Quartet and appeared with them at numerous festivals including the Sedona Music Festival, Vermont Music Festival, Ventura Chamber Music Festival, and the 20th Century Festival in Santa Fe. He has also appeared on over 150 film scores, including Academy Award– and Golden Globe–winning scores by John Williams, Michael Nyman, and James Horner, and has appeared in numerous solo and collaborative recitals, including performances of the complete cycles of Beethoven’s Sonatas and the Bach Cello Suites. British Pianist Nicholas Burns has performed in the United States, Canada, Spain, Germany and all around the UK. His performances have been broadcast by BBC Radio and Radio Maribou, and he has recorded three critically acclaimed albums for Nimbus. He is most often heard alongside violinist Louisa Stonehill as part of the Steinberg Duo. This season marks his first appearances in New England, including a recital series at the Redfern Arts Centre at Keene State College, as well as the release of a new recording of violin sonatas by John Ireland, Franz Reizenstein, and Geoffrey Bush for Lyrita. Together, for this Music for a Sunday Afternoon performance, Nicholas Burns and Paul Cohen will play a program of music by Beethoven, Brahms, and Thuile.
